Contrary to popular myth, not all Thai food is extremely hot (although some dishes from the northeast and south did become very hot) and you can enjoy tasty meals without having to worry about the spicy chili.

The beauty of Thai cuisine lies in its variety and wide range of flavors: curry thick and strong-flavored soups, fresh salads, stir-fried dishes of meat and vegetables and succulent seafood. All accompanied by large portions of aromatic rice.

As elsewhere, there are genuine regional specialties. In Chiang Mai, for example, “Khan Toke” or formal dinner consists of five dishes served in elegant bowls on a low lacquered table around which guests gather sitting on the floor. and Phuket and Pattaya, the fresh lobsters and crabs are the order of the day.

The traditional dessert of Thai food is usually the fruit and once again the variety is amazing, you can sample everything from bananas to pióas tender and exotic flavors and textures of the mangoes, peaches and grapefruit. Naturally in most tourist destinations will also find a commendable range of international cuisine, so you never miss the familiar tastes.

SHOPPING: a shrine to memory

For shopping enthusiasts, the biggest problem in Thailand is trying to decide what not to buy. In the last decade, the famous silks of the kingdom and craft has incorporated a wide range of products comprising everything from the latest international trends to watches and shoes.

However, local products are still the best buys, among which we can distinguish handmade embroidered cotton garments, wooden antiques, jewelry, porcelain and lacquer. Abundant fine craftsmanship and Chiang Mai can also visit the towns where these items are made and see how they are made.

The variety of items you can buy is complemented by the places’ where you can buy: from elegant boutiques and department stores richly stocked to the bustling markets and stalls. Market Chatuchak weekend in Bangkok and Chiang Mai Night Bazaar are particularly interesting and are filled with an incredible array of items. As they say here, if you can not buy in Thailand, probably is not for sale.
