The white villages route : The Northern Route

This route starts at Zahara de la Sierra. Located next to the reservoir to which it is named, the whole town is declared a National Monument. This small town, typical of the Cadiz mountains, is characterized by steep slopes of the layout of its streets. About 3 km. Grazalema in the direction of a path to the right leads to the Garganta Verde, fantastic place to find the Ermita de la Garganta, impressive cave with stalactites and stalagmites. From Zahara rises to 1357 meters from the Puerto de las Palomas, with a splendid view of the Park of the Sierra de Grazalema. Inside is the pinsapo, majestic fir and authentic relic of the era of ice ages.
Grazalema, one of the main towns in the area, appears at the foot of the visitor embraced by the Sierra del Pinar and Endrinal. Its narrow streets with white walls show where the various “hands-lime” have come to round corners.
Along the Sierra del Endrinal get to Villaluenga del Rosario, the highest population of white people. This beautiful town has steep winding streets and whitewashed, and large flower beds that adorn windows and balconies. A murmur of water reminds the visitor of the springs and the underground river flowing beneath their feet. In the surrounding areas may be sets of prehistoric caves and dolmens. Located between the Sierras and Endrinal Caille, is Benaocaz, village of Arab origin, in the vicinity still retains remnants of its former strength.
Continue road leading to Benamahoma and El Bosque, with caution to observe Tavizna Castle which stands on a rock. A little further on is an ancient Roman bridge on the river Tavizna
The village of El Bosque is clean and bright, with a real pleasure to stroll through its streets. Two sports practices are renowned El Bosque, the trout fishing in the river and paragliding or hang gliding from the takeoff zone in Albarracín.
The last point on this route is in Prado del Rey. In more modern layout than the previous runs on a slope on the hillside where his beautiful Verdugo streets, whitewashed garden is a relaxation for the eyes. In its vicinity, about 4 km. are the Roman ruins of Iptuci.
