Les Invalides: The Tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte

Paris, not only is the heart of France, is the center also of the profound social and political transformations of the French Revolution. And there lie the remains of his prodigal son, Napoleon Bonaparte. The imposing tomb is in the Hotel National des Invalides, a splendid palace of the seventeenth century.

The National Palace Hotel National des Invalides Invalides or is truly a building to behold in itself. The magnificent architecture of the royal buildings feature a thriving modern France is present in the royal palace to house formerly dedicated retired military or injured, hence the name “des Invalides”. Here are housed the Army Museum, the Museum of the Order of the Liberation and the Museum of drawings and reliefs.

The mausoleum dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte was built after the repatriation of his remains in 1840 (he died in exile on the island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic). In the circular enclosure of the dome of the church, crowned by a great dome is the tomb of the emperor. The sarcophagus is made of red porphyry, on a green granite base surrounded by laurels and inscriptions of the great Napoleonic military victories.
