Monastery of 10,000 Buddhas

Today we carry a religious complex that is also a whole curiosity. The 10,000 Buddhas Monastery is located in the area of Sha Tin , within the new territories of Hong Kong , and is not a typical monastery with resident monks, but a temple erected by laymen.

Monastery of 10,000 Buddhas

The religious complex was built in 1949 by the hand of his mentor the preacher of Buddhism Yuet Kai and many of his disciples. The work took about eight years, but then another ten years, set out to build and complete the statues of Buddhas , which currently total about 12,800, something that checks the number that names the temple is rather symbolic.

The complex has a main temple and a large Pagoda, known as heritage buildings, as well as lounges, halls and a tower, most buildings guarded by countless statues of Buddha . All facilities are spread over 8 hectares.

The construction of the Monastery of the 10,000 temples are organized by level, coupled to the inclinations of the terrain. But besides the greatness of the complex, one can walk indifferent to the overwhelming statues. Each was built in different poses and expressions. Especially the way up, there is an “army” of Buddhas guarding almost every one of the steps. As extravagant detail, in the year 1982 all the statues were covered in gold, and meanwhile through the continued work of the disciples and followers, the number of Buddhas continues to grow.
