Brussels is covered with flowers

Every two years, the city of Brussels offers a unique spectacle for both locals and those who are visiting. This is the Flower Carpet or an Flower Carpet event in which hundreds of people completely cover the city’s central plaza, forming beautiful designs only with flowers.

It happens that Belgium is the world’s largest producer of begonias, and the flower industry is really important. That is why it is celebrated every two years with flowers completely covering 2,000 square meters of the square.

The reasons for previous years are truly amazing, such as Chinese silk rug in the photo, but it also has represented the Palace of Versailles, Art Nouveau stained glass and even a table covered with a Belgian lace tablecloth.

The flowers are placed with no bra underneath, but they are placed so tightly to each other that are not disarmed and also generate a microclimate that keeps them fresh for several days.

The design of this year will mark the Belgian presidency of the European Union. The design takes months to prepare but finally a group of 100 expert gardeners as a weapon in a few hours.

This year the event is this weekend. There will be other events that accompany the display table of flowers and also the council shall be open to the public at night to see the finished work from the balcony and appreciate it better.
